Pet Sketches - Tito

I fell in love with Tito as soon as I saw his pictures. He is a ridiculously handsome and photogenic cat! I knew right away I wanted to do his portrait last because I didn't want to feel rushed! His picture was a game-changer--one that scared me a little knowing that my skills had grown so much over the past year!

Pet Sketches - Binx Redux

Binx has been on my mind all year. Now and then I redo a portrait because I'm not 100% happy with it, and as my skills grew, I knew I could do a better job. Binx is one of the reasons I decided to move to drawing faces instead of the whole pet. Sometimes it's easy to get stuck on details and faces work so much better, don't they?

Pet Sketches - Chloe and Violet

A precious pair of puppers! For this drawing, I used a lot of light blue, peach and lavender intead of straight grey. I remember my high school art teacher saying white and transparent objects were about the colours you couldn't see.

Snooki is such a cutie patootie, I had to draw her twice :-)

Pet Sketches - Pancake

It was with Pancake's picture I decided to really lean into only doing close-ups of faces. Sometimes trying to draw the whole body is a challenge! I made a mask to sponge paint on for his glorious whiskers.

Pet Sketches - Oswald

2025 was the year of the doodle dog! I think I must have drawn 5 or 6 doodles and silly Oswald was the last of them :-) His different coloured eyes really threw me off!

Pet Sketches - A

I drew a cartoony version of A back in 2023 and his human returned for a realistic version. The pose was challenging, but in the end, worked out very well!

A deluxe sketch for Alfie! He ran away from home, but happily returned :-)

Pet Sketches - Bigsby

Bigsby's portrait is one that took a while to ideate, and many conversations with one of his humans, but the result was so worth it! So many layers came together to make a very personal picture.

Pet Sketches - Sterling

Photos don't do Sterling's portrait just--this paper piece used many layers of vellum to create the water and glitter accented his coat and sand!

Pet Sketches - Pam

Pam is the third of three rabbits I was commissioned to draw this year. She came with such a cool backstory--her human found her amongst the dandelions, eating a piece of apple! I knew this picture called for something more special than a traditional drawing :-)

Pet Sketches - Hunny

Hunny is a total cutie patootie! It took a while to finish her picture because there ws some distortion in the reference photo and the position of one eye kept bothering me until I fixed it.

Pet Sketches - Nami

Handsome and snuggable Nami's pictures were done in-between my artistic growth spurt. It was a bit of a struggle between the past and the present!

Pet Sketches - Dracula

It sounds silly to say, but there are pictures where I experience a little bit of sadness when they're finished. Dracula's portait was one of them--I really enjoyed the process from drawing, cutting and final assembly!

Pet Sketches - Oscar and Mcgyver

A layered picture piece featuring kitties Oscar and Mcgyver. Pencil crayon, PanPastel, paper, ink and rubber stamps all came together for one unique 6x6" piece!

Pet Sketches - Panda

Panda's picture was another one where I stopped and couldn't believe I had created it. Panda is so perfect--from the shaded eyes to the tiny mouth!
